Autism Charlotte Benefit & Giving Back to Our Community

Autism Charlotte Benefit & Giving Back to Our Community

Last Thursday 3.5.15 was a great day for Charlotte and noble causes and I cannot say enough about how happy I am to have been a part of it. A star studded evening unfolded in one of the city’s oldest and most beautiful venues, the McColl Center for Art & Innovation. Models and designers, ballet dancers and donors, community leaders and Bon Vivant Culinary chefs were all among the over two hundred in attendance as Autism Charlotte hosted its annual benefit, Inspiration & Impact.

As the bar tenders poured wine from behind the elegant neon light bar, ballet dancers twirled around a room filled with guests dining on our elegant passed hors d’oeuvres petite fours, and other delights and placed their bids at a silent auction table which seemed endless with items provided by area businesses all to raise money for children in the queen city with Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Downstairs, a live auction including similar items and even a gift certificate provided by Bon Vivant Culinary was called by a traditional auctioneer on an immaculate catwalk where later in the evening nearly thirty professional models showcased fashion from the newest collection of internationally acclaimed designer Luis Machicao.

The donors in attendance dressed in the highest couture not only represented the best of the Charlotte area and international business community, local government leadership, and the nonprofit and arts community leaders but they also stood as a representation of the voice of compassion that truly believes “Every child has a future”. Marjorie Serralles-Russell is one of these community leaders. Among many hats she wears, Marjorie is a professional, a passionate advocate, and a mother of two. Her work and the work of many others including other board members and volunteers of Autism Charlotte is impacting our community in remarkable ways by assisting those children and families most effected by Autism and to raise awareness and change how we see and deal with ASD in every aspect of our daily lives. All of us knows someone with Autism or some form of it but what Autism Charlotte knows is that raising money that stays in our community to help by “addressing the needs of families in our community dealing with autism through inclusion-based programs” is paramount. Through after school programs at area YMCA branches and in partnership with CMS, their University Outreach Program, camps and scholarship initiatives, and workforce integration programs, Autism Charlotte is reaching thousands and helping those with autism through every level of education and into the workforce.

Several of the clients of Bon Vivant Culinary were in attendance of the Autism Charlotte event and many more of our clients can be characterized as prominent community leaders who participate in a wide range noble causes. While all of our clients, may they be regulars or new to Bon Vivant Culinary hold various positions and come from various backgrounds one thing about them is the same, they are all a part of this city as are we.

It is because of this fact that Bon Vivant Culinary has donated over $5,000 in charitable contributions to a number of organizations in the Charlotte area within the past year. I feel that in order to be a part of the community we are so lucky to serve, it is our obligation as a local business to support those organizations within the community who seek to better it. As we grow, so too will our ability to assist those making meaningful impact in our city and its surrounding areas. We are always lucky to serve those Bon Vivant’s in and around Charlotte who’s distinguished tastes lead them to us for events large or small, however when we can also assist in outreach and giving back to our community it is that much better. We commend and thank our partners and Autism Charlotte for allowing us to partake in an exceptional and memorable event and we look forward to being a part of this community and carrying on our responsibility to give back to it in any way we can for many years to come.
